My Revamped Clean Skin Care Routine

I used to buy everything at sephora; most of my make-up and all of my skin care products. Since January 2021, I decided to change that. I wanted to really start using clean products. Not just ones that say that they’re clean but that are actually clean, cruelty free, vegan, etc. I also wanted to start being more money cautious and when I started shopping at healthy Planet I was able to achieve my goals.

In this blog post I will be sharing with you the products I used to buy at Sephora and the products I am loving now from Healthy Planet. I will also share my thoughts during the transition of certain products as I did document when I started and wrote an update 6 months in and another update just recently 10 months in.

When did I start?:

I started using new face care products from Healthy Planet 🌱 I started on the evening of Wednesday Jan. 27, 2021.

What I’m Using:

Derma-E: Hydrating Facial Cleanser

Derma-E: Hydrating Day Time Face Cream

Now: Facial Oil - for extra hydration

Thayers: Witch Hazel Facial Toner - Rose

Why I switched:

To save some money! I was shopping everything at Sephora. I loved the Tatcha Water Cream but it's like $100 😣. And I was using the Fresh Rose water toner. I loved that combo before. I did switch to a different brand recently but I don't think my skin agreed with it.

I also wanted to start using cleaner products and I felt those from Sephora weren't fully clean. So I went to Healthy Planet to get some new products; similar to my original routine that I was doing for a few years.

I hope they agree with me and I can continue using them 💚.

UPDATE:

Date: July 7th, 2021

I’ve been using Healthy Planet products for 6 months now. I am still doing the same routine as mentioned in my last note but with a few different brands.

Still Using:

Derma-E: Hydrating Day Time Face Cream

Thayers: Witch Hazel Facial Toner - Rose

Both of these products I’ve had since January. The same bottles too! So it actually goes to show that they last a long time! I’ve also been using both of these products twice a day (morning and night).

The face cream got some getting used too. It’s a much thicker cream than I’m used to using. The Tatcha Water Cream was so light and clear. This face cream is thick and opaque. I’ve come to love it though. It’s super hydrating and it makes me feel great to have a clean product on my skin. I’ve been using a pea size amount each time. I still have product left to use and like I said, it’s been 6 months!

The witch hazel facial toner I’ve put into a spray bottle applicator so I can mist my face instead of using the applicator it comes with. This makes for an easier application. I spray whatever amount I want onto my face when I come out of the shower. It feels so refreshing and calming. I have plenty of this product left. It will honestly last me for another few months.

Brands that I’ve switched to:

Originally using ⇢ Derma-E: Hydrating Facial Cleanser but I’ve switched to ⇢ Skin Essence Organics Facial Cleanser in Fresh

I really enjoyed using the Derma-E cleanser. It was light and actually super hydrating. This new brand that I’ve currently switched to is also really nice. It hasn’t affected my skin in any negative way which is good. There is a price difference between the two brands for the amount of product you get. I’m actually preferring the Derma-E cleanser more. It just feels a bit better when I use it so I’ll be switching back to that one once I’m finished with the Skin Essence Organics one.

Started using ⇢ Now: Facial Oil and I’m currently using ⇢ Skin Essence Organics Rosehip Seed Oil.

After I finished the Now Facial Oil, I purchased a different brand ⇢ Badger Face Oil Damascus Rose simply because I couldn't find the Now brand at the time. Once I ran out of the Badger brand I went to purchase another one but they had since discontinued it. So unfortunate because I actually really liked the Badger brand. I got recommended to use the Skin Essence Organics brand. Also a rose seed oil. Serums and oils are both good extras to aid in hydration. I’m really enjoying this brand of rose oil 🌹.

I still love all of these products. If you shop at Sephora these are the products I recommend. Remember though, everyones skin is different and what works for me may not work for you. There are hundreds of different products that do their own thing and range in price. After years of searching for the best combination for my skin I landed on these 5 products.

As you can see, there is a major price difference from the Sephora receipt and the Healthy Planet one. A $325.49 difference (after tax)! That’s actually insane.

Total (with Ontario tax) ⇢ $421.49

The main difference in products between the two receipts is the fact I used a day cream and a night cream before. On the Healthy Planet receipt you can see I’ve only been using a day cream for BOTH my day and night routine. I was considering getting both the day and night cream version but honestly this is working out fine and has been for the winter and now into the summer.

I’m still using a hydrating cleanser, a rose toner, an oil/serum and a hydrating moisturizer. I went for products that would give me the same results and hopefully overall better results because they are healthier products for your skin.

Total (with Ontario tax) ⇢ $96.00

UPDATE:

Date: October 11th, 2021

It has been 10 months since I’ve switched to products sold at Healthy Planet and my skin looks and feels amazing!

Still using:

No joke, I still have a tiny bit of the Thayers: Witch Hazel Facial Toner left! I have purchased a new one but have yet to open it up. This product is definitely way cheaper than the Fresh Floral Rose Toner from Sephora and it lasts super long! I find my spray application process with this product very smart and it makes the product last longer; less waste than putting it on a cotton pad.

I’m still using the same face cream and oil brands. I’ve had to purchase a new face cream since my last update as well as a few more oils. The oil is a very small bottle so it’s understandable that you’ll need to purchase more often.

I finished off the ⇢ Skin Essence Organics Facial Cleanser in Fresh and I’ve switched back to using ⇢ Derma-E: Hydrating Facial Cleanser. I enjoy this cleanser more and it’s less expensive and a little goes a long way!

New products:

I did recently add in a new face oil which I am choosing to use in the day time and use the rose oil in the evening. The new face oil is from Saje Wellness and so far I am loving it! This product is still very new to me so I’m not including it in my receipts above. It was a product I simple wanted to try out for fun.

My Skin Type, my routine and why I use what I use:

I would say my skin type is combination. I get oily in my T-zone (forehead and down your nose) and sometimes my chin. This mostly happens in the warmer months. When the weather gets cooler, I can get dry in my cheeks and when I did wear makeup it would flake on my forehead and chin.

Routine:

Step 1: Derma-E: Hydrating Facial Cleanser

Step 2: Skin Essence Organics Rosehip Seed Oil

Step 3: Derma-E: Hydrating Day Time Face Cream

Step 4: Thayers: Witch Hazel Facial Toner - Rose

I chose to use products that offer hydration. Rose infused anything is good for hydrating the skin and by keeping your skin hydrated helps keep up the youthfulness. This is why I use the face toner and oil that I do. Hyaluronic Acid is also good for hydration and both my face wash and face cream offer this.

FInal Thoughts:

I am so happy I made this switch! I am be no means saying “don’t shop at Sephora.” I am just giving my honest opinion and the reasons why I made these changes. I made these changes for me, for my skin and for my health. I hope to inspire those who are also thinking of changing their routine and to help them out with this blog post.

Another thing that I think really helped was the fact I didn’t wear makeup for over a year! Now that my skin is finally where I’d like it to be, I am confident everyday going out in public with no makeup on. Of course, I still do get the odd hormonal pimple or those that pop up when I have too much chocolate and of course…wearing a mask for 8 hours at work will give me the odd pimple around my mouth.

All in all my face feels clean, it feels light and looks even. I’ve accepted the fact that I naturally have redness in my face (around my cheeks) which is totally normal and honestly…it acts as a natural blush. I have also seen results on my reduced scaring from past acne breakouts.

If you’re looking to save some money and/or are having trouble with your own skin…I encourage you to check out Healthy Planet. They offer so many clean brands that have a wide range of options for all skin types. Everyones skin is different and trust me when I say it took me years to figure out the routine that worked for me. Try doing your own research like me or go visit your local Healthy Planet and get help from the beauty consultant.

I know skin care can be frustrating in regards to finding the right product and pricing but you have to be patient and willing to find what works best for you. I wish you all the best of luck!
