You Had Me At Merlot

I recently traveled to Prince Edward County for my first wine tasting. Over the past few years I’ve come to enjoy wine very much. Although I don’t have a high tolerance for alcohol I really appreciate the art of a glass of vino.

It started when I was in collage. I took a sommelier course as part of my program and it really opened my eyes to beer, wine and spirits. A short while after I started drinking wine more often and enjoyed it more and more each time.

Like I said, this was my first visit to a vineyard. Due to COVID-19 I wasn’t able to get a tour or personal tasting. There is always a next time and many more vineyards to visit. Luckily we were still able to enjoy the tasting bar which is perfectly fine when you’re in good company.

Going to the tasting bar is actually not that expensive. The first place we went to was Waupoos Estate Winery. Super cute and friendly establishment. They offer a flight of 4 wines for $10 and if you buy 2 bottles of their wine, you can get your flight for free.

My favourite out of the 4 was the house red (which is the one I’m holding). So smooth, medium body wine. It goes down easy.

The second winery was Casa-Dea Winery. A mcuh larger estate but again no tours. We were still able to walk around the grounds with our wine and enjoy the scenery. I didn’t take pictures at this one unfortunately. I just failed to do so LOL.

If you’ve never been to a winery it’s a lovely experience. Make it a day trip! It doesn’t have to be expensive or a whole weekend. Even if you go as a DD you can still enjoy the lovely views.
