Dr. Martens | 1460

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t always a fan of Dr. Martens boots in the past. I always thought they looked too chunky and edgy but I’m all about that look now!

I have a lot of classier and very casual looking boots so I wanted a pair that can dress up a look but still be laid back. I thought about Dr. Martens boots and was still skeptical of the look but I thought I’d give it a try. I can be iffy about high top boots & shoes in a way of how they look on my legs. Having thicker calves, I always felt high top boots & shoes make my feet and ankles look abnormally small for my legs. THAT BEING SAID, it doesn’t hurt to try it out.

Let me say I’m so happy I did! They are so bad ass and confident looking!

When I went to the store, I was simply there to inquire about them and with no immediate intention of buying them that day. Needless to say I learned a lot about them and ended up buying them that day. The ladies at the store were very helpful in the wear, comfort and sizing of the shoe.

I know Dr. Martens can be very controversial in how they feel so that’s why I’m here to share my experience after having and wearing them for about a month.

Where I bought my Dr. Martens

I went to the mall with the intention of going to a certain store but I pasted by Little Burgundy and I’m so happy I did! I keep forgetting but they have an amazing return policy…a whole year to return your unworn shoes! That’s pretty amazing and perfect for these shoes. Because they are a pricier purchase and need working in, it’s great that you have a full year to decide and return if you’re not 100% about them. So if you’e interested in purchasing a pair of anything really…go check out Little Burgundy.

Sizing

I am a US size 9 in almost every type of shoe but in these shoes I sized down a whole size! The ladies at the store helped me with this. They actually didn’t have a size 9 at the location but brought out the same style in size 8. I was skeptical AF. I was thinking no way will these fit me because it looks like such a tightly structured boot. I was wrong.

Initially I thought they were tight. I do have wide feet but these are leather boots and they will give a little with time. Obviously not in length but where the foot bends and such. The ladies knew it was the right size for me because they saw how easily I slide into them. This is a main reason why I wanted to go into a store to try them on before purchasing them instead of buying them online. As well as comfort which I’ll talk about next.

Comfort level

Again this was a main reason why I wanted to try them on in a store before I purchased them. The Little Burgundy ladies assured me they will give and become more comfortable…actually one of the girls was wearing her own pair of DMs!

My first reaction to trying them on was iffy. My thoughts were, ‘they’re too tight’ and ‘they’re uncomfortable in certain areas’. The longer I had them on the better I felt. I adored them so much I wanted to give them a shot so I decided to purchase them and wear them around the house for a while until I felt comfortable in them…or if not I would return them. Actually the ladies at the store suggested this to me and I would suggest this to anyone who is thinking about buying their first pair!

WORK. THEM. IN. Don’t walk all day downtown in these babies for the first few times because they will be uncomfortable. They are stiff in all sorts of places and need to get worked in and become soft. Wear them around your house for a little at a time to get used to them. When you finally wear them out, again don’t spend all day in them. Go to the store and back to break them in.

I remember the heals feeling weird, where the foot bends it felt weird, my left foot felt different from the right. After wearing them for just over a month now, I don’t feel these differences anymore! I feel invincible in them!

I can’t stress enough about breaking these shoes in if you’re serious about keeping them.

My Style of Choice

I went with the classic style 1460 smooth leather lace up boot. I was contemplating the vegan leather option to be more friendly but the ladies at Little Burgundy asked if I was a vegan and I said '“far from” so they said get the real leather because they’ve been out for a MUCH longer time and have a great rep. where as the vegan ones are only a few years old and no one knows how they will age. Makes sense and they are the same price.

Dr. Martens offer an array of styles in boots, shoes and sandals. From thick soles and platforms to a more down to Earth vibe, to the classic look to the more outgoing and edgy looks.

My 1460 Dr. Martens offers a smooth leather look with their classic yellow stitching around the sole and 8 eyes to lace up.

Fashion Picks

Honestly these boots go with any outfit. I find they give your look a dressy/edgy look without being too ‘dressy’. Does that make sense? Like instead of wearing your beat up UGG boot ( love my UGG’s still) you can throw on your DMs and it’ll instantly vamp up your look.

Wear your Dr. Martens with ripped or non-ripped jeans, leggings, track pants and even dresses! Pair it with your favourite high top socks for the colder seasons.

To sum it all up…

  1. Size down one size - I’m a US size 9 and purchased a US size 8

  2. Comfort level at the beginning was a 5/10 - Now it’s a 9/10

  3. WORK. THEM. IN. - Take them for a walk around the house to break them in

  4. If you’re not vegan opt for the real leather option - They have been out in the world for a much longer time and will literally last forever

  5. They go with any outfit - Whatever you'r style, I’m sure you can fit them into your wardrobe
