How To | Casual Messy Bun

Don’t get me wrong, I love wearing my hair down. It’s flowy and nothing is stressing it but I also like to wear my hair up in a bun. I’m known for wearing it as a top knot or in a sock bun but recently I’ve discovered and finally mastered this effortless messy loop bun. There’s only 2 things holding this bun in place, a hair tie and a hair clip! That’s it! No bobbie pins which is great because sometimes those bobbie pins can be annoying. I love this bun because it’s super easy and big! I like big buns LOL.

Step #1

Start off with day 2+ hair. There’s more texture and helps with the volume of the bun. Take your dry shampoo to your roots. Use as must as you’d like. You can also use a texturizing spray if your hair is super soft and silky.

Step #2

Bring all your hair to one side and use your fine tooth comb or teasing comb to tease your hair from the mid, down. This doesn’t need to be perfect. Flip your hair to the other side of your head and do the same thing. Make it as messy as you want it.

Step #3

Gather your hair up to the top of your head. TIP: I like to flip my hair upside down and gather it that way. You want to create a loop with your hair. This doesn’t have to be a big hoop at first. You’ll have time to make it bigger.

Hold your hair in the loop (as seen in the pic) and secure it with your hair tie. Your hair should now look like a backwards loop bun. The ends of your hair should be going towards your face. If your hoop is small, now is the time to make it bigger and fluffier. fiddle with your hair until it’s to your liking.

Step #4

With the ends of your hair at the front, divide that section in half and bring it around to the back. feel free to leave a few pieces out for that extra messy look. You’ll have chance to do this again if it doesn’t work out right now.

Step #5

Secure the 2 pieces around your loop at the back with your hair clip. Now you can feel free to pull and little pieces of hair out where ever you want. I like to bring pieces out from where I clipped it at the back, around my ears and puff my hair out around my hair line so it’s not so tight.

Finish that look off with some hair spray and you’re done!
