- What is Yoko Yoga -
YOKO Yoga is a space created off of my original brand YOKO Accents. If you recall my reasoning for choosing the name Yoko as my brand when you’ll know this is a unique experience. I use the name Yoko as an acronym. YOKO = Your Own Kind Of. There for YOKO Yoga translates to Your Own Kind Of Yoga.
These practices are built to help you. Help your mind and your body. They are short and beginner friendly so all levels of yogi are welcome! I am here to help you open up anything that is locked up inside of you. I personally guide you and help YOU release that energy within.
Yoga is not only an exercise but a life style. I am taking my personally experience with yoga and sharing it with everyone.
- My journey with yoga -
My journey with yoga started about 15 years ago. I’ve always been fascinated by it and of course like many others was afraid to start that journey because I didn’t think I was flexible enough or could keep up with the teacher. Non the less I eventually went to my first “yoga” type class at a GoodLife Fitness gym. That’s were I began to feel comfortable with my instructor (which I feel is important). Over the years I practised yoga at different GoodLife Fitness gyms. I even went to my first ever hot yoga class there! I eventually found a yoga studio that I vibed with, TruBliss Yoga Studio in Courtice. I went there frequently for a bit taking hot yoga classes. I loved and still love this studio. While I was frequenting that yoga studio, I also found a lovely lady who was offering outdoor yoga classes. That I loved very much. Unfortunately for me she decided to provinces so I was no longer able to do those classes. Beyond happy for her by the way! That made me think about one day, eventually, doing something like that; offering outdoor yoga classes. The fresh air and the touch of grass was always something that connected me to yoga even more.
Over those years I rarely did yoga at home, except for like one video on the Lululemon website (back when they had those available). Doing yoga at home is still hard for me to this day but recently I have learned to just move my body. There doesn’t need to be a set routine or time limit for you at home. As long as you are moving your body, even for 10-15 minutes, that is what will help you in the long run.
With all that being said, yoga has taught me a lot and yes, it took a while. Literally the entire time I have been practicing it. At first I went to yoga to become more flexible. I’m still not the most flexible. As my yoga journey continued, I realized it was helping my mentally. I noticed I was much calmer during and after classes and that I would reflect in my lifestyle as well. That is why I kept going and believe in this practice.
I believe that doing yoga will help your body and your mind. Just moving your body helps your mind and relaxing your mind helps the body. It has taken me 15 years to reach this realization for myself about yoga. I believe yoga is healthy for everyone to do.
So there you go! I am not on of those yoga teachers that has been practicing every single day. I am not one who chants or knows every single sanskrit word for every pose. I am not the most flexible person in the class nor the more strong.
My classes are designed for you and you come to them to better your lifestyle.
